Project Description:

Commonwealth Engineers & Consultants, Inc.  developed design alternatives to Route 138 from North Kingstown to Jamestown to establish a designated bicycle facility.  An evaluation of potential environmental impacts associated with the bicycle facility was performed.

The North Kingstown side of the 'Old' Jamestown Bridge is proposed to be converted into a fishing pier with the removal of the bridge structure.  The design of the facility shall include a fishing pier parking lot and bicycle/pedestrian access in relation to the Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridge.

The design study report addressed alternatives for a bicycle/pedestrian facility along Route 138 in North Kingstown and Jamestown, including the crossing of Narragansett Bay.  The use of the 'Old' Jamestown Bridge was evaluated as a possible route for bicyclists and pedestrians to cross the Narragansett Bay maintaining the structure in place for this use.
